The Fourth of July is really one of my favorite holidays. Both my son and I are firework nuts and love to light off everything from bottle rockets to really big multi-shot pyrotechnic devices. My daughter just rolls her eyes but secretly I think she has just as much fun as a teenager might admit to. We celebrate the holiday and spend as much time with family and friends as we can.
Every year I try to come up with some fun adult beverages for when we don’t have punks in our hands and with a little research think I’ve come up with some pretty good Fourth of July Cocktails. Be safe this holiday season and enjoy!
Rosé Sangria
This is super refreshing sangria for hot summer days. If you would like less alcohol content, substitute club soda for the Prosecco or leave out the Grand Marnier. I love it all together!
3 cups Raspberries
3 cups chopped Fresh Peaches
1 bottle Jean-Luc Colombo Dry Rosé
1 bottle Cavit Prosecco
½ cup Gran Gala Orange Liqueur
½ Cup simple syrup
Ice Cubes
Cut pineapple into bite size pieces and place in a large pitcher. Add the Rosé, Gran Gala, and sugar. Stir well then add the blueberries and raspberries. I add the berries after stirring to avoid having them break down in the liquid. Refrigerate for several hours. Just before serving, add the Cavit Prosecco, gently stir again and pour into glasses over ice cubes. Garnish with an American Flag pick if you so desire!
Patriotic Jell-O Shots
While this may be a little labor intensive, the end result is really fun and pretty! Plus it is tasty! You can make a kids version just leave out the vodka and make the jello according to package instructions. You can top adult shots with a fresh cherry with stem as the adult identifier and red gummy bears for the kiddos!
3 Cups of 360 Vodka Flavors and Wheatley Vodka (see below)
3 Cups of Boiling Water
14 oz. Sweetened Condensed Milk
4 Envelopes of Knox® Unflavored Gelatin
3 oz. Berry Blue Flavored Jell-O® Gelatin
3 oz. Strawberry or Cherry Flavored Jell-O® Gelatin
Blue Jello: Pour 1 cup of 360 Huckleberry vodka into a bowl or container. Sprinkle 1 envelope of unflavored gelatin over the vodka. Let it stand for about one minute. Add berry blue flavored Jell-O and pour 1 cup of boiling water. Stir until the gelatin completely dissolves.
Pour the blue jello into a clear tall shot glass and put it in the refrigerator. Refrigerate for about 40 minutes or until the gelatin is firm enough to add the next layer. If you would rather use a jello mold or a baking dish to layer the jello that would be a fine alternative to shot glasses. Just find a fun star cookie cutter to make shapes!
White Jello: Pour 1 cup of plain Wheatley vodka into a bowl or container. Sprinkle 2 envelopes of unflavored gelatin over the vodka. Let it stand for about two minutes. Add 1 cup of boiling water and stir until the gelatin completely dissolves. Pour the sweetened condensed milk and stir well. Let the mixture cool to at least room temperature stirring occasionally to keep it smooth. Pour the white Jello on top of the blue jello. Refrigerate for about 40 minutes or until the gelatin is firm enough to add the red layer.
Red Jello: Pour 1 cup of 360 Cherry vodka into a bowl or container. Sprinkle 1 envelope of unflavored gelatin over the vodka. Let it stand for about one minute. Add cherry flavored Jell-O and pour 1 cup of boiling water. Stir until the gelatin completely dissolves. Again, let come to room temperature before pouring on top of the white jello layer. Top with a fresh cherry.
I really wanted a blue cocktail this year and stumbled across a recipe from the folks at Bols featuring their Blue Curacao. It is a pretty blue Liqueur with a mild orange flavor and it turns any cocktail blue! It is perfect for the Fourth of July. While this recipe is for a single cocktail, I will let you do the math to determine how many servings you need. Throw everything together in a pitcher and you won’t have to bartend all night.
Blue Envy
1 1/2 oz. Corralejo Silver Tequila
2 oz. Pineapple juice
1/2 oz. Bols Blue Curacao
Pour tequila into a glass and fill with ice. Add pineapple juice and stir well. Top with Blue Curacao and stir lightly. Garnish with a cherry for a pop of patriotic color!
